Sector Training Councils

The sector Training Councils provide advice and assistance to the Chief Executive and appropriate staff at a strategic level. They contribute to developing sector training plans, do sector resource forecasting, have sector training provider oversight and look after sector specific licensing/qualifications.

During 2007 in conjunction with TAANZ, ATTTO disbanded the Travel Training Council and is seeking to reform the council at an executive and strategic level in 2008.

An initial meeting in November 2007of interested parties consisted of:

Mr Paul Yeo TAANZ

Mr Andrew Bowman (First Travel Group)

Mr John Wilson (United Travel)

Mr Charlie Ives (NZITT)

The sector Training Councils also help ATTTO form industry advisory groups (IAGs) as required. IAGs are made up of people with high levels of detailed technical knowledge required to build the content of a qualification and the skills to do this for the greater good of the wider industry. They are responsible for qualification and programme development and review, and industry consultation sign-off. For details refer to the ATTTO website.

The Chief Executive of ATTTO convenes each Training Council. The role of Industry Training is to promote and enable the uptake of training programmes in the workplace that culminate in the award of National Certificates and National Diplomas. This includes providing mentoring and support via Industry Training Advisors, benchmarking and aligning in-house training programs, registering trainees and training assessors, arranging training seminars and assessments, etc.
